Audrey Hepburn birth certificate

There seems to be a lot of misinformation about the late Audrey Hepburn, both on the internet and in various publications. In particular, there are some strange notions about her name at birth. However, her birth certificate is in the public domain and appears on a number of websites, and so it should be easy enough to check the facts.

A copy of her birth certificate is attached to this page. To view it, click on Attachments below and then on the name of the image.

The confusion may well have arisen from what took place during World War II. This is described briefly on this website:[Note]

Life During World War II

... After the 1935 divorce of her parents, she was living with her mother at Arnhem, Netherlands when the German invasion and occupation of World War II occurred. At that time she adopted the pseudonym Edda Van Heemstra, modifying her mother's documents to do so, because an "English-sounding" name was considered dangerous. This was never her legal name and this lead to a lot of confusion regarding Audrey's name and many biographies incorrectly state her birth name as Edda.
